JoAnn Falletta, music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, shared the happy news on her Facebook page that two of her recordings are included on the ballot for possible nomination for the Grammy Awards.
One of the CDs is with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the Symphony No. 3 of Reinhold Gliere, the massive work that the BPO performed at Carnegie Hall in 2013 and later recorded for Naxos. News Arts Editor Jeff Simon praised this recording lavishly earlier this year, writing that it was among the BPO’s greatest achievements.
The other disc, also on the Naxos label, is a recording of the music of Kenneth Fuchs that Falletta made with the London Symphony Orchestra. The central work on that disc is “Falling Man,” inspired by the World Trade Center attack and the novel by Don DeLillo about the harrowing events.
The nominations are scheduled to be announced Dec. 5.
